BREADALBANE GET BACK ON TRACK Breadalbane 1 St Johns 0
Scorer: Jamieson Breadalbane entertained St Johns desperate to get back to winning ways after a string of disappointing results. The Perth side, however, have revived from a shaky start to the season and were looking to stake their own claim for second spot in the league. A closely fought encounter seemed on the cards and that’s exactly what the fans got on a particularly unseasonable day. Missing their three recognised centre halves, the home side fielded an unfamiliar back line, but welcomed back the attacking threat of Price, Carr and da Silva. The first half proved a real power struggle, with neither team able to gain the upper hand. Playing into a blustery wind, though, St Johns certainly looked the more dangerous side and created the one clear cut chance of the half, which they failed to convert. The second half saw the tables turn in the home side’s favour, however, and they began to pose more of a threat going forward. With an hour played, da Silva did well to create space for himself on the left and clipped in a tempting cross that Jamieson met expertly, flicking his header beyond the keeper into the far corner.
This seemed to instill some much needed confidence in the home side and they began to play with the endeavour that was so evident in the early part of the season. St Johns were restricted to very few opportunities as Veitch, Smith and Dewar closed the door on the Perth side’s attacking threat. A late sending off for the St John’s substitute only added to their frustration and Breadalbane successfully closed out the game for their first win over the visitors in five years. With the league title now won, an intriguing battle for second place has opened up and this result certainly keeps Breadalbane in the running for their highest league finish in over forty years. Breadalbane: Subs (not used): D Robertson, C Price
