TITLE HOPES SINK IN THE MIRE Kinross 3 Breadalbane 022 March - League Division 1
Breadalbane slumped to a disappointing defeat at the Mire which extinguished any lingering hopes of title glory – for this season at least. The home side have finally found their feet in the top league after a difficult start to the season and their new found confidence was evident from the kick off. An evenly balanced first half saw few clear cut chances at either end, although Jamieson came close with a well controlled volley that struck the bar, his effort from the rebound being well blocked by the Kinross defender. It was Kinross who managed to break the deadlock, though, just before half time. A long ball from the back eluded the Breadalbane defence to allow Kinross new boy Childs a free run on goal. He wasn’t about to disappoint his new team mates and finished comfortably beyond Menzies. A goal down at the start of the second half, Breadalbane needed inspiration from somewhere and Robertson re-jigged his formation to hopefully give some fresh impetus going forward. It had no effect, however, as Kinross doubled their lead within seconds of the restart, midfielder Gallacher getting on the end of a neat passing move. The home side just grew in confidence from this point on and gave lie to their league position with a display of crisp passing on the open spaces of the home park. Breadalbane did come close with a couple of half chances, but the home side wrapped up a comfortable victory when centre half Allan popped up in the box to put the result beyond doubt. Insult was added to injury for Breadalbane as first of all Thomas and Carr limped off with worrying injuries and then Iain Robertson was sent off in injury time. His bout of shoving with Gallacher might have embarrassed a 10 year old in the playground, but referee Stewart decided to apply the letter of the law and sent both miscreants from the park, when a spell in the naughty corner might have been more appropriate.
