BREAD BREAK BAL WITH EARLY GOALS Breadalbane 2 Balmoral 0 26 April - League Division 1
Scorers: Price, Laing Breadalbane’s revival continued on Saturday with a victory over Balmoral that guaranteed at least a third place finish in the league – their highest position in over 40 years. Injuries and late call-offs meant that manager Robertson was forced to alter the 3-4-3 formation which has served him so well in recent weeks. However, the changes seemed to make little difference as the home side stormed into an early lead – scoring with their first two attacks on the Balmoral goal. A tidy move ended with Laing releasing the overlapping Cromb into the box. The youngster’s clever cut back found its way to the far post where da Silva and Price contrived to bundle the ball over the line – the big number 9 claiming the final touch. Minutes later it was Price who turned provider, clipping a neat cross from a tight angle that allowed Laing to head home from close range. A shell-shocked Balmoral side gathered themselves well after this whirlwind start and began to assert themselves as the half wore on, but got little change from a resolute home defence, marshalled well by McAdam. The second half proved as dour as a Tuesday night in the Breadalbane Arms, but with better catering. Balmoral huffed and puffed towards the home goal but created few clear cut chances – Menzies being forced into just one sharp save at his near post to maintain the two goal cushion. Thus, another satisfying result for the Aberfeldy side, who have recovered well after a mid-season slump that threatened to deflate their season. Now, with a second place league finish and three cups to play for, each remaining game has some real meaning attached to it to keep the Feldy Ultras on their toes into the next month. Breadalbane: Subs (not used): D Robertson, C Price
