EARLY ERRORS PROVE COSTLY FOR BREADALBANE

Breadalbane  1        Ballinluig 2                                       16 February - League Division 1

Scorer: Jacobs

Breadalbane slumped to their second league defeat in succession in another incident packed local derby at home to Ballinluig.

Injury, suspension and work commitments saw Robertson forced to shuffle his pack once more, but the home side made a confident start against a resurgent Ballinluig team.  In their first real attack Breadalbane were denied a strong penalty claim when da Silva’s trickery tempted a clumsy challenge in the box.  Appeals were waved aside, however, and within ten minutes Breadalbane found themselves two goals down and with a mountain to climb.

First of all McAdam misjudged a through ball that allowed Ben Scrimgeour to race through on goal unchallenged - the striker made no mistake with a composed finish.  Then, minutes later, Veitch was short with a headed passback.  Alert as ever, Simpson needed no second invitation and executed a perfect lob over the helpless keeper.

The shell shocked home side took some time to recover their composure, but began setting about the task of retrieving the match and started to pin their opponents back into their own half.  However, Ballinluig defended resolutely and Sharp in the away goal proved to be in particularly inspired form.

Just before half-time, however, Breadalbane pegged one back.  Da Silva cleverly created space on the right wing and his pinpoint cross was met confidently by the unmarked Jacobs at the far post.

Breadalbane had their tails up going into half-time, but it was the visitors who nearly extended their lead immediately after the break.  An eye watering goal line block from MacDougall was followed by a header off the crossbar, but the home goal survived and Breadalbane went on to set up camp in the opposition half for the rest of the game.

Despite having the bulk of possession, however, they could find no way past the hard working visiting defence.  The pressure took its toll on Ballinluig and their desperate defending led to two red cards late in the game.  But this just seemed to inspire them to greater efforts and Sharp capped a fine display by denying Smith in the final minute to ensure his side made the short trip home with all three points.

Breadalbane:
Menzies, MacDougall (D Robertson), McAdam, Veitch, Smith, Cromb (Jamieson), Klatschak (Macaskill), I Robertson, Carr, Jacobs, da Silva
