BREADALBANE NICK POINTS WITH ANOTHER LATE SHOW

Ballinluig 2               Breadalbane 3                                 8 December - League Division 1

Scorers: Price (2), Carr

For the second week running Breadalbane scored in the final minute to take all three points and maintain their impressive run of league form.

Matches with local rivals Ballinluig are normally eventful affairs, but the cold, wet conditions seemed to subdue both sides who served up some dismal fare that gave the Feldy faithful little cheer until late in the game.

The match started brightly for Breadalbane, who scored early on when Gavin Price guided home a header from a pinpoint Carr cross.  The rest of the half turned into a dour struggle, however, as Breadalbane failed to build on the momentum of their early lead and Ballinluig played themselves back into the game.

Midway through the second half the home side grabbed a deserved equaliser.  A harmless ball into the box was poorly cleared and returned with interest by the Ballinluig midfield man, whose volley sneaked in at Menzies’ far post.

This seemed to spur the visitors into action, however, and Carr regained their lead with a cleverly taken 20 yard free kick that comfortably beat a poorly positioned goalkeeper.

At this point it appeared Breadalbane would take the initiative and go on to win the game, but few could have predicted what was to come next.  The otherwise faultless Menzies misjudged the flight of a long punt from the back, which skidded off the surface and flew over his head.  For once, the keeper was left without a prayer as Simpson ran on to roll the ball into an unguarded net for the equaliser.

From there, it seemed that the game was petering out into an unsatisfactory draw.  But Chucky Carr had other ideas.  With just seconds remaining, the young wide man threw in yet another inviting cross that was gratefully accepted by Price from nine yards to secure three more points for the Aberfeldy side.

They may be leaving things a bit late, but Breadalbane’s impressive league form sees them rise to second in the table.  With unpredictable Auchterarder visiting Aberfeldy on Saturday, Breadalbane will be hoping to go into the upcoming break on a real festive high.
